Green Party Councillor for Dublin’s South-East Inner City, Green Party & Sustainability Manager, Body & Soul Music and Arts Festival
Claire Byrne is a politician, environmental education specialist and sustainability consultant for the events industry.
She is a Green Party Councillor for Dublin’s South-East Inner City. First elected in 2014, Claire works on influencing public policy in the areas of planning, climate action, biodiversity, waste, arts and culture, active transport and improving the quality of life in the City. She is chair of the Dublin City Climate Action Plan Committee and was part of the negotiation team for the Arts and Culture section of the current Programme for Government. She currently works as a political assistant to Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Environment, Climate Action and Communications.
Claire is also the Sustainability Manager for Body & Soul festival, working to both minimise the environmental impact of the festival and championing the event as a platform to inspire positive social change and climate action. The festival has won several A Greener Festival Awards for its environmental achievements in the outdoor events industry and is the leading light in sustainability in the Irish festival scene. She previously co-curated The Global Green at Electric Picnic and worked with Another Love Story to develop and implement their sustainability strategy.
In addition, Claire has designed and delivered environmental education programmes and events for schools nationwide in partnership with SEAI, Google, Bord Na Mona, An Post and Green Schools.
Claire is passionate about exploring the interface between creativity, politics and climate as a way to effectively communicate both the challenges and solutions of the climate crisis and to inspire positive, meaningful behaviour change
