FIRESIDE: The Need for Climate Repair Now
Sir David King will set out briefly the current state of the global climate crisis. The recent report of the IPCC, published last month, is the most important assessment of humanity’s future on earth to date. The required global response to this prognosis was set out in the most recent report of the Climate Crisis Advisory Group which demonstrated the need to shift focus beyond net zero Carbon emissions. This group, which he chairs, is composed of 14 leading climate experts from around the world. The response, to take us on a pathway to a manageable future, is: (i) deep and rapid emissions reduction; (ii) removal of excess greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere; and (iii) repairing those parts of the climate system that are already close to or past their tipping points. The CCRC is a hub for global activities to achieve each of the objectives set out in this comprehensive strategy, working with universities, industry, political leaders and the financial and re-insurance sectors

Environmental Philanthropy as a Business Strategy - how your company can form part of creating a thriving future for our planet and generations to come
Giving to NGOs is often seen as an afterthought or at best a nice-to-have. In this case study, we will turn that on its head, showing how your giving strategy - why you give, to whom you give, how you integrate your giving into your culture and brand - can be an integral part of how and why you operate as a business, and how your business can be part of creating a thriving future for our planet and future generations.

FIRESIDE: Moving Towards A Net-Zero Society
Sustainability and Climate Justice are core values of both Mary and her previous foundation, whose purpose was thought leadership, education and advocacy on the struggle to secure global justice for those vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
This vision of humanity and their shared responsibilities for each other and our planet for future generations is again shared by The Elders in which Mary is the current Chair. This session will discuss these issues and how business leaders can adopt actionable sustainable strategies to move us toward a net-zero society with touches on Gender Equality

PANEL: WORKING IN CONCERT: Towards a sustainable Irish Events Ecosystem
Perhaps more so than any other sector, Ireland's event industry has suffered major disruption over the past 16 months. As we prepare to re-open and emerge from the shadow of COVID-19, it is imperative that we take the opportunity to embrace new ways of working, embedding the ethos of sustainability into our business models and ideals. Budgets and resources will be extremely tight in this brave new world, but we must create the conditions to invest in planet-friendly products and services, as climate change is a ticking timebomb. Join us for a lively debate on the sustainability of Ireland's future events industry. Specially-curated by Native Events on behalf of The Business Show's Sustainability Summit 2021, and hosted by Green Party Councillor Claire Byrne, this panel will bring together sector leaders and future thinkers from across the island. The aim is to co-create a common pathway for the sustainable implementation of large-scale public gatherings in 2022, and beyond.

PANEL: Responsible and Sustainable Businesses - Diverse Perspectives
As the Climate Crisis continues to impact upon our economy and society, the critical leadership challenge for Irish business will be to harness the growing desire for increased sustainability – from themselves, their employees, their external stakeholders - and to successfully go beyond business as usual. This panel session examines how businesses are responding to the increasingly critical imperative to be responsible, to lessen any negative environmental impacts of their work, and to contribute to a more sustainable future.

PANEL: Where are we with ESG for Venture Capital?
A wave of ESG has been rolling across companies and (financial) asset classes for some time; VC is very late to the game and only now starting to catch up. In this conversation moderated by Sifted editor Eleanor Warnock with Susan Winterberg (independent consultant) and Johannes Lenhard (University of Cambridge), we will explore why this is and how the industry is slowly catching up; where are challenges for VCs (and the startup companies they invest in) and who are key stakeholders that are pushing the conversation forward?
